Spring 2011 Digital Image Management, The Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online
In this introduction to the basics of digital photographic postproduction, the student will become acquainted with the terms, concepts, and processes of photographic editing. Areas of instruction will include hardware and software related to image acquisition and management, general corrections and manipulation, and modes for output.
Fall 2010 and Winter 2011 Photograph I: Digital, International Center of Photography
This course introduces students to the creative and technical possibilities of digital photography. Through demonstrations and hands-on sessions, students learn the basics of using cameras and imaging software to produce digital photographs. Topics include camera operation, shutter speed, aperture, focal length, RAW file formats, white balance, and composition. Using Adobe Lightroom, students learn file management, image enhancement, and printing.
2009-2010 David Maisel Photography, Sausalito, CA Studio Manager
Renting and setting up equipment for studio and location shoots. Contact with the studio’s gallery representation and publishers for upcoming exhibitions and book projects. Transition of studio to digital printing with Epson in-house large format printer. Printed the “History’s Shadow” show at the California Museum of Photography at UC Riverside.
Fall 2007 Alternative Process Photography, San Francisco State University
Taught 19th century photographic processes such as platinum/palladium, albumen, and cyanotype printing. Introduced digital inkjet negatives for contact printing to the department. Students produced a portfolio of images from the processes being taught.
Spring 2007 Color Photography 1, San Francisco State University
Taught the first all-digital class at San Francisco State University. Incorporated commercial workflows into the curriculum for students to learn practical techniques in career building. Students produced portfolios based on testing assignments.
Spring 2007 Photo As A Critical Tool, San Francisco State University
2nd session of the introduction to using computer software for photographic output. Class assignments focused on using the photograph as more than single images. Final portfolios consisted of digital photo bookmaking and still photographic films using La Jetée as a model.

Fall 2006 Ways of Seeing, San Francisco State University
1st session of the introduction to using computer software for photographic output. Taught basic photo editing procedures that included but not limited to digital photo capture, color correction, use of layers, and file preparation for output. Final portfolios demonstrated technical understanding of software coupled with conceptual use of the medium
Fall 2006 Photography 1, San Francisco State University
Taught introduction to Black and White film photography covering exposure, processing and printing. Introduced the students to masters in different fields of photography. Final portfolios presented control of the medium with an introduction to a gallery-required understanding of presentation and archival techniques.
